COMMISSIONS

Commissions challenge me in exciting new ways since most are of subjects that aren’t in my usual repertoire. I love the one-on-one experience of getting to know the collector who has decided to work with me, and of finding out the story behind the piece they’d like me to create. Is it a gift? A memory? A celebration? It’s always an honor to be able to help bring a client’s dream to a finished canvas.

“My wife and I have commissioned several paintings from Lynn. She is extremely easy to work with and is always willing to challenge herself with something new. I once sent her a hundred arrowheads I had collected and asked her if she could incorporate these into a painting. She completely exceeded my crazy expectations! We will continue to collect her work and feel lucky to now call her a friend. She has a very special talent and I can't wait to work on our next piece together.” — Mike

“My husband and I bought our first painting from Lynn in Santa Fe. I loved it so much I knew I wanted several more. I was able to talk to Lynn about a commissioned painting of our dog, Hope, as a surprise for my husband's birthday. I have never seen him so excited about a gift! Lynn was so much fun to work with, and she truly captured Hope's personality. She brings all of her paintings to life!”

“While all commissions carry an inherent level of collaboration, I try to make it known from the beginning that a finished painting will not look like a photograph. It’s crucial a potential client knows my style and the marks I love to make.” — Lynn Samis

“We commissioned Lynn to create a painting over our fireplace at our cabin in Colorado. We had something special in mind: a fall foliage scene that characterized a Colorado hike in the woods. Not only did Lynn deliver, but she exceeded our expectations in every way. The fall colors, the texture, and the subject matter were absolutely perfect!  We would have never found such a special painting without commissioning Lynn.”

Let’s Work Together

Commissioning a painting is not as intimidating as it might seem! It starts with a simple conversation about general concepts: Why are you interested in a commissioned piece? What size might work for the space you’re thinking of? Is there a specific photograph you’d like to use as a reference? Is there a timeline you have in mind? By the end of our discussion we’ll have gotten to know each other a little better and discovered whether we’re a good fit. Take a peek at the FAQs for answers to some common questions, but if you have others, please reach out. I’m happy to chat.

  • Give me a call at (817) 915-1078 or send an email and we’ll set up a time to meet in person or talk on the phone. I look forward to hearing from you!

  • This varies depending on the size and complexity of your piece. We can discuss a timeline during our first meeting.

  • Again, this will vary based on the size and complexity of your piece, but generally commissions do require a slightly higher level of investment.

  • While the short answer here is “no,” I do take your color preferences into account as we plan the piece.

  • Yes, there is a bit of a leap of faith in commissioning an artist to paint something you may already have a vision of in your mind, but the planning process is collaborative. We’ll also schedule two opportunities for you to give input and feedback.
